Beverly Hills dermatologist Dr. Debra Luftman explains what skincare ingredients you should look for when dealing with pesky breakouts.
“I tell my teen patients to look at their skincare products just like they would their food: Look at the actual ingredients. For a cleanser, you’re looking for a glycolic cleanser or a salicylic acid cleanser—something that will gently exfoliate the skin and take the dead skin off. When going for a prescription product, they’re going to be looking for something with a retinoid, which is something that will help with those whiteheads and blackheads, plus benzoyl peroxide to tackle bacteria. And those two products are together in one product, a prescription product called Epiduo.”

“With prom hair, I always advise keeping it natural and soft. Also, don’t use hair magazines as your source of inspiration; instead, look back at red-carpet pictures from the Golden Globes, Emmys, and Oscars. Use those celebrity hairstyles as your inspiration. It’ll ensure that you get a modern, glam look that’s soft and chic rather than an outdated eighties updo. Most importantly, bring a picture of your desired look to your stylist on the day of prom so that he or she knows exactly what you are looking for.” –Ashley Hanna, stylist at Mizu Hair in New York City
