The British actor was delighted to move to Los Angeles for his role as vampire Bill Compton in the tv series, but his plans for a life in the sun were dashed when he was told he needed to maintain a pale complexion. He said: “I couldn’t wait to live by the beach and enjoy the weather, then they dye my hair and make me stay out of the sun. I was banned from sunbathing.”

The star, who plays gay factory worker Sean Tully in the soap, has purchased a house with Peter, whom he met on the set of the show. A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “He and Peter are so much in love. They have exchanged rings to show they are as good as a married couple, although they haven’t had a civil ceremony.”
