Get Kristen Stewart’s Oscars look!

kristenstewartoscars.jpgI know you girls heart Kristen (and all things Twilight!), so I asked
Jillian Dempsey, Kristen’s Oscars makeup artist (and Avon’s Global Creative
Color Director) for the lowdown on her makeup. Enjoy!
“Kristen’s look was edgy glam, with a clean, youthful feeling. We played
up her eyes with heavy liner and lots of lush mascara. Her eyeshadow was
a shimmering, midnight quartz, complimented by peach lips. To create those
smoldering eyes, use Jillian Dempsey for Avon Kohl Eyeliner in Black, Dior
Show Mascara
in Blackout, and Avon True Color Eyeshadow in Midnight Plum.
On the face, start with Armani Silk Luminous Foundation. Then, add Shu
Uemura Blush
in Peach 45 and Benefit That Gal (a brightener) to give cheeks
a pinch of color. To complete the look, apply the brand new Jillian Dempsey
for Avon Professional Multi-Pencil
in Twice as Nice for a soft, peachy
pout.”

Get the Look: Anna Kendrick’s Subtle Oscars Glow!

anna-kendrick.jpgThe red carpet can be a LOT to process–sparkles! Red lips! Crazy hair! I always find it refreshing when celebs downplay it a bit– like Anna Kendrick! She was the picture of low key beauty last night. Here’s the 411 on how to get her look from her makeup artist Sara Glick!
“Our overall Inspiration was youthful, ethereal beauty–think soft, natural glowing skin! Anna has beautiful skin and doesn’t need much to make it glow. I prepped her skin with Arcona’s Magic White Ice, a light, all natural moisturizer to help it stay hydrated throughout the night. For a natural flush, I accented Anna’s cheek bones with a Tarte’s Natural Cheek Stain in Eco-cheek on the apples of her cheeks. I wanted to create a soft, healthy pink lip with a touch of shine, so I used Tarte’s LipSurgenceâ Natural Lip Stain in Charmed (light pink) as a base. I topped that with Tarte’s Double-ended Natural Lipglosses in Samantha for added shine. I finished with a light spritz of Arcona’s Lavender Hydrasol for a fresh and dewy complexion.”

Out of This World Oscars Beauty: Zoe Saldana

zoesaldana.jpgI’m still working on getting the step-by-step for Zoe’s makeup, but in the meantime, here’s the scoop from Mara Roszak, TRESemmé Celebrity Stylist, on creating Zoe Saldana’s hair last night!
“We didn’t want the hair and make up to compete with her Givenchy dress, so we created an elegant but effortless editorial look. To get the look,

  • Apply TRESemmé Naturals Lightweight Mousse all over damp hair and blow dry away from the face with volume, flipping head upside down when the hair is almost dry to finish.
  • Separate the crown from the rest of the hair and pull back sides and back into a tight ponytail.  Pull the hair almost all the way through, leaving the ends tucked into the pony tail holder to create a half bun shape.  Let a few pieces in the back fall out for a messier look.
  • Tease the top of the hair, pull back to meet the back and pin, criss-crossing the bobby pins for a secure hold.  Spray all over with TRESemmé TRES TWO Two Hair Spray.

My top stylist secret: Spray hairspray on finger tips and gently pull the hair around the face with your fingers to loosen the hair, giving it an organic effortless look.”

My Favorite Oscar Look of the Night: Maggie Gyllenhaal!

maggie.jpgI adore Maggie G. She’s not a conventional beauty, takes fashion risks on and off the red carpet, seems like the nicest, and–oh yes–her brother is really, really cute (that’s an important detail, no?). Her look on the red carpet yesterday was divine, from her stunning Dries Van Noten dress to her hair and makeup. Here’s the scoop on her look, from head to toe!
Hair: Celebrity hairstylist Mark Townsend styled Maggie’s hair into a soft bun and finished off the look with Jennifer Behr’s Artemesia Tiara (JenniferBehr.com) in Jet.
Makeup: Cover Girl makeup artist Molly Stern shared, “Maggie’s Dries Van Noten gown is a swirl of bright colors that fades into white. For her makeup, I wanted to bring out the color of her eyes with some depth while keeping with the brightness of her overall style. We started off the look by refreshing the skin with Jurlique Rose Water spray. Then, I prepped the skin with Shu Uemura red:juvenus vitalizing concentrate and lightly moisturized with La Mer moisturizing lotion. For a flawless complexion I primed Maggie’s skin with COVERGIRL & Olay Simply Ageless Serum Primer (out in July!). Then, I lightly applied some Chantecaille future skin foundation in the color ‘cream’ only where she needed it. Then lastly I dusted La Mer powder foundation in ‘Ivory’ to set the skin for the big night. For her amber peachy cheeks, I used COVERGIRL & Olay Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush in Rich Cinnamon and dusted some NARS Dolce Vita blush on the apples. For Maggie’s eyes of layered copper smoke, I based her eye with COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast in Bronze Fire. Next, I deepened her lid with NARS Soft Touch Shadow Pencil in Skorpios. Then, I blended Shu Uemura eyeshadow 810 brown into the crease and, lastly, I lightly dusted Shu Uemura pressed eyeshadow in 860 brown all over the lid for a golden finish.  For the undereye, I resmudged the COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast under her lash line to bring out the blue of Maggie’s eyes. Finally, I defined her lashes by combining brown and black mascara. I painted the lashes with both colors using COVERGIRL LashBlast Length [editor's note: this is my absolute fave!] for perfectly flirty long lashes. On Maggie’s lips, I applied NARS Schiap lip color–it was the perfect shade to finish off the look. Its bright hue matches Maggie’s vibrant sense of style and confidence.”

Mine, All Mine!

  1. P2180501.JPG

A few months ago I blogged about my amazing trip to the Sally Hansen labs–and the chance of a lifetime to make my own polishes! Well, after waiting with bated breath for several weeks (and after harassing the poor publicist practically daily), my colors arrived! Huzzah! Clearly I went a bit overboard making the polishes–we were only supposed to make one each but I had a meltdown and made five! My favorite color is probably the soft, sparkly pink. What do you guys think?

Sitting Pretty

  1. posture1.jpg
  2. posture2.jpg

I confess, I have the worst posture ever when I’m sitting at my desk and working away on the computer. I inevitably end up hunching over with my back painfully curved into a “C” and my shoulders drooped forward. So I have no one else to blame but myself when I get up after an hour and find my back completely sore and stiff. What I didn’t realize was that this bad habit is not only setting me up for a lifetime of serious back problems, but could cause physical problems right now. Despite what you may think, back pain isn’t limited to just older adults. In fact, it affects between 37 to 60 percent of teens, according to Esther Gokhale, acupuncturist and author of 8 Steps to a Pain-Free Back. (When you consider how much time teens spend sitting in front of a computer, it’s not that surprising.) “When you’re body creates that C shape, it puts pressure on your spinal discs and you’re well on your way to becoming a hunched person! The problem isn’t that we sit, but how we sit,” she says. The next time you plunk yourself down in a chair for a long study session, try out these simple steps to help you sit more comfortably and keep your back muscles relaxed:

  • For optimal sitting posture, your pelvic bone should be tipped forward to help the rest of your spine stack well on top of it. To help your pelvis get into that position, sit on a wedge (pictured above). You can use a folded towel, piece of clothing, or pillow. If using a wedge isn’t an option, sit on the very front edge of the chair, which allows your pelvis to tip forward.
  • Throughout the day, perform a shoulder roll with each shoulder. Start by hunching the shoulder forward and then lift it towards your ears. Roll the shoulder back as far as you can and let it slide down while keeping it in line with the back of the body. This puts your shoulders in the best position possible and will help you sit and work longer without feeling any pain or tension.

Mikey Graham Skates Off Show

The Boyzone singer lost out to former soap actress Danniella Westbrook in the skate off after performing a routine to bandmate Ronan Keating’s track ‘When You Say Nothing At All’. Mikey admitted he had been so busy with band commitments to Boyzone he had not had time to rehearse properly for the show.

John Partridge No Fan Of ’stereotype’ Sean

The hunky actor wanted his character in the BBC One soap, openly homosexual barman Christian Clarke, to be less camp and to represent a different part of the gay community to Sean, who is played by Antony Cotton. He told Attitude magazine: “What I didn’t want as a stereotype was what I call a tea-time gay. The Sean Tully type of character is the re…
