Go, Go, Gaultier!

gaultier.jpgJean Paul Gaultier’s collection hits Target stores on Sunday March 7th! This anchor cut-out t-shirt would make an amazing beach cover-up… Too bad I don’t have any beach vacations planned, sigh!

Oscar Countdown!

bruce-grayson.jpg

Movies, schmovies! To me, the Oscars are all about fashion and beauty (confession: the only movie I’ve seen that’s in the running for an award is Avatar). I recently had the privilege of chatting with Bruce Grayson, 2010 Academy Awards Makeup Department Head and Olay Celebrity Makeup Artist. He gave me the lowdown on red carpet beauty…
1. How far in advance of a big event do celebs start taking care of your skin?
As a celebrity makeup artist, I always stress the importance of prepping the skin at least four days before a big event, because no matter what look you’re going for, great makeup starts with great skincare. In addition to drinking lots of water and avoiding salty foods, which will keep skin looking hydrated and keep puffiness at bay, it’s important to follow a strict skin care regimen. A new product I love for pre-event prep is the Olay Professional Pro-X Intensive Firming Treatment ($62) - this two step kit combines a hydrating mask and tightening serum. It’s packed with an effective blend of ingredients! You can pick it up at your local drugstore.
2. What are your top three drugstore products?
My top three drugstore picks are:
COVERGIRL Smoky Shadowblast ($8) - It’s a new double-ended stick with expertly picked coordinated shades and two precision applicator tips -  one for the base and one for the liner/crease, so you can easily apply, smudge and blend shadows to perfect smoky perfection.
Wet ‘n’ Wild Creme Lipliner Pencil, Brandywine 666 ($2) - If you like to use lipliner, you will love this great brownie-mauve color. It looks amazing on so many different  complexions.
Olay Regenerist Anti Aging Eye Roller ($23) - A super quick fix for tired eyes - not to mention very hydrating and great for on the go! Use this quick daily treatment and massage away puffiness in just 30 seconds.
3. What is the best way to apply concealer? With a brush or your finger?
I use both a brush and my fingers to apply concealer. I like to brush on a sheer application of concealer, blending the edges with short quick strokes. Then I use my fingers  to pat on a little extra for areas that need a bit more coverage.

Nail 911: Butterfly Studio to the Rescue

manicure.jpg

Manhattan’s Butterfly Studio Salon is famous for giving impeccable cuts and creating gorgeous hair color, but who knew their nail services were just as stellar? I dropped in recently for a much-needed mani (my dry, splitting nails and ragged cuticles were in SERIOUS need of professional help), and the awesome, super friendly nail technician Cristina Marroquin diligently scrubbed, filed, and buffed my nails until they looked oh-so-shiny and pristine. And I was amazed at how quickly she worked while still being so thorough about nipping every hangnail and perfecting each nail’s shape. If you’re in the city, definitely drop by and get your winter-wearied hands rehabbed by Cristina! For those who can’t make the trip, no worries–she’s got you covered. Here are her top insider tips for keeping your hands soft and healthy through these last weeks of bone-chilling weather:
  • “I’ve tried every hand cream out there, and I’ve found that ones with shea butter definitely work the best to deeply hydrate,” she says. (And trust me, she has the ultra smooth hands to prove it.) At only $13 bucks a tube, Burt’s Bees Shea Butter Hand Repair Creme won’t break the bank.
  • It’s important to moisturize your cuticles with oil on a daily basis, but you don’t have to use anything fancy. “Just get some olive oil from your kitchen, put a drop on each nail, and rub it along the cuticle area. It works great!” she swears.
  • Don’t forget to wear gloves if you’re going outside on a chilly day,” she reminds. “Your hands will stay in much better shape if you keep them covered from the cold wind.”

Academy Awards: Best Actor

While some of Hollywood’s biggest acting names find themselves in the mix for Best Actor this year but there has been one clear favourite to take home the award. Despite Jeff Bridges being the runaway favourite could Academy voters spring a shock on the biggest night on the movie calendar?

Johnny Depp’s Career Ups And Downs

To say that Johnny Depp is an unorthodox actor would be a bit of an understatement having made a career out of off the walls roles that other actor wouldn’t touch with a barge pole. You may have noticed the American actor is rather a good looking fellow and tv show 21 Jump Street made him a teen pin up, a role he wasn’t all together comfortable with.

Justin Timberlake’s Car Tests

The ‘SexyBack’ hitmaker is convinced his fans mainly listen to his music whilst driving and so has developed a unique “car test” to ensure his records are up to scratch and sound great when played through vehicle speakers. The 29-year-old star now goes into his car and listens to his new material at several stages throughout production.
