Suffice it to say: waxing is often a painful process. The hot wax can be uncomfortable and the actual removal tends to be harsh and irritating to sensitive skin. That’s why I was really eager to try out a new waxing procedure offered at the Uni K Wax Centers that have been popping up around the country. Uni K Wax is different for a few reasons. I met with Noemi Grupenmager, the Founder & CEO of Uni K Waxing Centers, who gave me the lowdown on her creation. Uni K uses a natural wax made from pinesap, beeswax, and aloe vera. The fragrant concoction, which has a really cool green color, is made at each Uni K center and every customer is guaranteed their own pot for their waxing experience. I got my eyebrows done at one of the Uni K centers in NYC and am very pleased with the results! The wax was not scalding hot and paper-waxing strips were never even used! The wax is simply and painlessly pulled off after being spread on the location of your choice and after, you are ready to go! It pulls hair from the root and leaves skin clean. Because the wax is the only step in the system, it is easy to cover larger areas of the body in a shorter amount of time, and to top it off there is virtually no redness even right after it is done. I recommend the Uni K experience to anyone with sensitive skin or any fear of waxing. It is quick, easy, and you will walk out with smooth, hairless skin. Check out store locations and make appointments here!

Jewelry + big hair = full frontal fashion! Here’s a tip from Barbara Lhotan, Creative Advisor to the Elie Elie Salon in Winchester, VA: “In 2010, the big hair trend will continue…and what will be added to the overall look is chunky jewelry! Make sure you own a large barrel curling iron and keep some hot rollers handy. And hair spray is a necessary companion. In terms of color, it’s vibrant.. Once again, the colors are reds and blonds that are almost white.”

I am the queen of hair straightening processes. I tried a Japanese hair straightening process in eighth grade, and have continued to be on the quest for the best tools ever since. I was REALLY excited when I heard I would be able to try the Sam Brocato VIBRASTRAIT flat iron when I came into work one day. I was a bit skeptical at first– I had heard of oscillating mascara, but a vibrating hair straightener was news to me. However, I fell in love with it the moment I turned it on. The tourmaline ceramic plates that subtly vibrate helped to straighten my naturally curly hair in a much faster and fluid motion than my old straightener. The tool is incredibly easy to use, and it provides the option of turning the vibration off (something that I do not plan on doing). It is also nice because it allows temperature adjustment from 190 to 450 degrees depending on the kind of hair being straightened. On humid days, I blast the heat, and when my hair is a little bit more manageable, I can turn down the temperature. The greatest part? My hair is as smooth as ever. It looks shiny every time I use the VIBRASTRAIT. Score this hair lifesaver for $200 at Folica.com

Okay, I’ll be the first to admit that the word “cow” usually doesn’t bring up happy connotations (for instance, say, the term “fat cow” or, um, “having a cow”). Thanks to an amazing treatment at the super deluxe Cowshed Spa in NYC, though, I’m all about cows now though! The spa is lovely–so English, so discrete (it’s at the Soho House, a private member’s only chichi club), and so serene. If you’re ever in London or NYC, I’d definitely recommend a visit! Check out their website to find a location near you.
