Talk about a confluence of BRILLIANCE! I recently got to pick the brains of two amazing hair talents: Brad Johns (Color Director at Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa’s NYC Flagship) and Zahir Zaini (National Creative Director at Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spas). Here, their thoughts on some pressing hair issues.

• What’s the #1 thing women do incorrectly when it comes to hair?

      Use the wrong Blow Dryer and Styling products to style hair

• What is a must-have tool or product for hair that most women don’t use/have?

     Gloss to add shine

• What hair trend are you glad is out?

     Strong chemical relaxers that have been replaced with healthy smoothing treatments

• What’s the #1 thing women do incorrectly when it comes to hair?

The biggest mistake women make when it comes to hair coloring is darkening the color more than they wanted to. Women tend to go to dark too fast and regret it soon after. Lightening dark shades is much harder than darkening light ones. Therefore, my advice to women who want to color their hair in a darker shade would be to gradually add color so that you can be sure to get the shade you want.

• What is a must-have tool or product for hair that most women don’t use/have?

Women must use deep conditioners when coloring their hair. I recommend using heavy conditioning treatments that are packaged in tubs rather than squeeze tubes at least once a month. When you have colored hair, it’s very important to keep hair moisturized. I personally like the deep conditioning treatments from Davines. Another product women don’t use but should is silicone drops. They are great when used on wet hair in preparation of styling with heat.

• What hair trend are you glad is out? 

     Skunk stripes!

• What celebrity to you embodies amazing hair?

Reese Witherspoon, because her style,   cut and color are great! Whether surfing at the beach, walking down 5th Ave or hanging out with her kids, her hair always looks fabulous.
