I absolutely love holiday parties. I feel like they’re the big chance to deck yourself out in sparkles and super-glam details, and I always find myself wanting to do something a bit more special with my hair. So, I caught up with stylist Allison Woodruff with Sally Hershberger Downtown for an ” lesson on eye-catching updos!
“To achieve the look, start with second day hair (hair that has been washed the day prior) as
it will have more texture and be easier to style into a tussled updo. Apply a generous amount of strong hold mousse to the hair and dry by using a
scrunching motion with your hands. When hair is completely dry it will most probably feel crunchy and look stiff. Brush hair out with a soft bristle brush and if you have bangs, style them into a side sweep. If hair is long, brush back, to the side, or part in the middle–however you prefer. At this point, make sure the rest of your hair is hanging down. Back comb the entire head and make sure the outer layer is reasonably smooth.
Gather your hair into a low pony, holding the hair firmly on the head with your right hand. With your other hand, grab the ends of the pony and twist in an inward motion. Pull the end of the twist high to the top of the head and tuck the loose ends under the twist itself. Secure with bobby and hairpins. Finish with hairspray and a satin bow for a chic touch.”
