Model for a Day!

bobbi-brown-real-women-makeover.jpg
During Fashion Week, when I was backstage at Brian Reyes, I met the amazing Bobbi Brown. I have a huge sentimental soft spot for BobbiA –A when I was 13 my best friend, Jane, and I had a makeup philosophy that was, the more black eyeliner, the better! My mom was having none of it, so for my birthday, she took Jane and me to the Saks in Austin for Bobbi Brown makeovers. It was the most glamorous moment of my life! Until now! When I met Bobbi, she pulled me aside to ask if I would be part of her spring campaign featuring “Real Women’s Beauty.” My initial reaction was something like, “Wait. What? Seriously? Me??” I was beyond nervous since I’m majorly shy and uncomfortable in front of the cameraA –A definitely no model! But also super excited and really thrilled to be part of this. Without giving too much away, I’ll say there was a “before” shot and video takenA –A “I look so sad and tired!” I wailed upon seeing my portraitA –A and an “after” shot and video. The “after” effect is insanely pretty and naturalA –A I swear she is a wizard!A bobbi-brown-real-women-makeover-2.jpgIt was so strange having all these people fussing over me, I think at one point I had Bobbi touching up my makeup while the hairstylist worked on my hair, and the clothes stylist hung earrings on meA –A all in front of the big studio lights! Truly, it was the apex of glam for me! It was so much fun, and such a wonderful treat to have my makeup done by Bobbi herself, especially after starting down the path with her products as a teen. Keep your eyes peeled for me, come spring! Check out these behind the scenes shots from Bobbi’s photographer, Ben Ritter (www.benritter.com), for a little sneak preview!

Banging On…

irina-lazareanu-bangs-tips.jpgSo, update on the bang situation. They seem to be growing at the speed of,
um, molasses (or whatever the opposite of the speed of light would be).
Argh! Why is it that when you want your hair to grow, it doesn’t!
So, I asked hairstylist extraordinaire Jet Rhys (jetrhys.com) for some tips.
Here, her wisdom:
“Here are my four ideas for dealing with bangs when you’re growing them out!A
#1 Pin Em’ Back!A
Brush the bangs back toward the back of your head. Then, push them forward
so they pouf up a bit and bobby pin at the crown. Swipe on pomade or gel to
smooth flyaways.A
#2 Do the twist!A Pull your bangs up, give them a twist, pin to one side and
spritz with spray!A
#3 The split and tuck: Part damp hair down the middle, coaxing your bangs
away from your face. Draw back on each side bobby pin about two inches from
your forehead then just slide the rest of the hair over the telltale pins.
It’s a clever little trick!A
#4 Sweep them up and away. Work gel into damp hair and blow dry it straight
back. Comb hair into a low ponytail, pin mist hairspray to keep them blended.A
Little tips:
Neaten bangs with hair powder to create a bit of volume. Or, blow dry your
bangs on the other side. This will re-invent your look.A
Hair grows about a 1/2 inch per month so you will have your bang freedom in
a month or two.
A
They have the most adorable feather headbands now for fall. The trick is to
camo your bangs by wearing the band close to your forehead–this will draw
attention to the headpiece not your grown out bangs!”
