Last week Mariel and I were thrilled to attend the launch party for the new colors of Knock Out (also known as KO) cosmetics nail polish, created by famed NYC makeup artist Mike Potter. The party was hosted by New York’s legendary boutique, Henri Bendel, which made for a true kid in a candy shop experience. The line just recently hit the shelves and has since grown to include an assortment of colors from the understated Concrete to the eye catching Pool. It is also a favorite of our September cover girl Taylor Momsen. The polish is definitely not your average nail polish–it’s matte! Yes, matte polish (a bit of an oxymoron if you ask me), but for those of you who spend your schooldays coloring your fingernails in with markers or white out, this might just be the look for you.
 
At the event, those eager and curious enough to wait in line received a complimentary manicure. I of course did, and while I was told by the creator himself that I was “definitely a red”, I chickened out last minute and went with the Ox, a dark plum color. When you go for a typical manicure you expect to leave with gleaming polished nails, but this is not the case here. The subtle sophistication of the matte finish was quite surprising! It took a little getting used to, but the chic matte finish grew on me.
