The other day, I went to an event for The Body Shop to preview their new collaboration with the Somaly Mam Foundation and ECPAT (End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes). They showed a video which was kind of grim–all about child prostitution, child pornography, and child trafficking. Being the softie I am, I totally ended up almost bawling right there and then in the conference room. The sad reality is that too many kids are subject to awful things like that–even in the US! It’s not discussed that often because–understandably, since it’s so horrid–most people want to just pretend it doesn’t exist. Well, it does. And I think it’s just great that The Body Shop is launching a new hand cream called Soft Hands Kind Heart that benefits ECAPT. Celebrate! Sephora has just opened a brand new store in Times Square, on 42nd street and Seventh Ave, and lucky me, I got to attend some of the fun! By far the most exciting part was meeting the gorgeous Richards sisters, Theodora and Alexandra, and the wonderful, bubbly Lauren Luke. Theodora and Alexandra were on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony and afterwards I got to chat with them. Alexandra was wearing the cutest one shoulder dress from French Connection, while Theodora carried the most amazing hamburger purse-seriously, it was a plastic hamburger on a chain-from Hannah Havana. Theodora, I hope you don’t mind me biting your style-I’ve got one of my own on its way! Despite enviable outfits, these girls have some truly fabulous summer plans, especially considering they had just returned from the Glastonbury festival. Theodora told me, “I’m actually headed out to Germany today, hopefully! I’m trying to line up some work out there, and afterwards I’m going to spend some time in Europe.” Alexandra has more local, though no less glorious plans, “I’m modeling a lot, and DJ-ing in the Hamptons. I’m really looking forward to fashion week,” she told me. As for music picks, “I’m listening to a lot of The Ting Tings, Cut Copy, and the Black Keys.” As the two geared up to go on a massive Sephora shopping spree, I asked which products they swear by. Alexandra loves Kate Somerville for her face, but added “I’m super excited to try the new Lauren Luke sets, and the Temptu Airbrush Makeup System!” Theodora swears by Bare Minerals, and in terms of beauty secrets, both girls agreed: “Keep your brushes clean!!”
