20 Questions with Gossip Girl’s Jessica Szohr!

jessica-z-imgg.jpg

Lucky girl! Not only does Jessica Szohr star in one of the most insanely popular shows ever, she’s also the host of Dove’s go fresh <a href=”http://www.cwtv.com/thecw/dovegofresh”>GOSSIP GIRL: Real NYC Stories Revealed. The miniseries reveals four real girls’ stories about surviving and succeeding in fashion, film, and jewelry design–while dealing with all the drama that comes with living in the big city.  We caught up with Vanessa….er…Jessica to get her take on the Real NYC Stories Revealed , and what high school was really like for this Gossip Girl. Check out the final series episode TONIGHT during the GG season finale!

1. What’s your morning beauty routine like?
I brush my teeth, wash my face and apply moisturizer.

2. What products can’t you live without?
I love Dove go fresh Burst Body Wash - it’s an invigorating way to start my day!

3. Who taught you how to put on makeup?
I’ve been learning some great tricks from the makeup artists I’ve been able to work with over the years.

4. Vanessa has tried some pretty out there looks with her makeup–are you as daring?
I keep it pretty simple, but I do like to try a smoky eye at night.

5. What about with fashion? Would you wear V’s clothes off set?
I’ve been introduced to so many different designers working on the show so I’m definitely getting to try out some great new looks! Currently, I love experimenting with accessories.

6. Personality wise, do you feel like you’re similar to Vanessa? Which character on the show do you think you’re the most like, if not her?
Since I grew up in Wisconsin, I identify most with Vanessa. She didn’t live on the Upper East Side and had a job in high school!

7. What has it been like working on the Dove go fresh video series?
It’s been a great experience. Dove is sharing real stories from girls that grew up in New York City and resemble the characters on Gossip Girl, including a fashion designer, Ivy-league entrepreneur, It girl, and Brooklyn filmmaker. The stories from the four real girls are so inspiring and I hope their stories will encourage other girls to take risks and pursue their own dreams.

8. Which go fresh scent is your favorite?
I love the nectarine and white ginger scent of the new Dove go fresh Burst Body Wash!

9. Is there a “real NYC story” that you find most compelling?
I would have to say I relate most to the story shared by Faythallegra Coleman, the emerging filmmaker from Brooklyn.

10. Looking back now, what advice would you give yourself in high school?
Always stay true to yourself.

best part of any masquerade party? The masks of course! What other
accessory can create such an aura of mystery? There’s nothing like a
case of mistaken identity to create some party excitement! Remember the Masquerade Ball on season one of Gossip Girl, when Nate thought Jenny was Serena and total dramz ensued? And with both Dylan AND Cole at Debby’s party, there was an extra level of masquerading confusion!

Beauty Crisis: How to Choose a Foundation

foundation-tps-img.jpgRachel asks: I am having a hard time finding any shades of liquid foundation to match my skin tone. What should I do?

Finding the right color to match your skin is never an easy task! Here, some of my favorite make up artists share how to find your perfect foundation.

Richard Anderson, creator of Per-fekt Beauty says the solution is his Skin Perfection Gel: “The modern gel-mousse is a skin-perfector, foundation, primer, color corrector and powder that provides an instant confidence boost in one little smear of color. It’s available in 5 sheer shades that warm to all skin tones, so every girl can find the perfect match.

Makeup artist and Creative Director for ELF Cosmetics Achelle Dunaway shares these four tips on finding your ideal foundation:
1. If you are having a hard time trying to find your perfect foundation, try blending 2 shades together.  This is great because you can blend a little more of a lighter shade for the winter months and a little more of the darker shade for summer months to fit your tone.
2. You actually don’t have to put foundation all over the face which can sometimes be hard to match, just a little concealer around the eyes, nose, and on any spots will even out the skin tone and give a more natural look.
3. If you found your perfect color powder, wet an applicator to turn your powder into a foundation-like coverage.
4. Try and match your foundation to your neck; this will make your color look more natural.  Matching to your face can give you that “orange look”.

Makeup artist Nancy Rand suggests: “TOUCH COSMETICS Matte Finish Foundation. It’s oil-free, no fragrance, hypo-allergenic with COQ10 vitamins. A little goes a long way.  You would apply a dot onto the area you want to cover and blend in with your fingers, you’ll feel it turn from a liquid to a powder in just seconds! It’s like applying second skin, leaving you with a flawless complexion. As to matching the color, swipe a bit on your jaw line, blend and it should blend to your neck with no color contrast.”

Licensed Cosmetologist and director of student salon operations at Empire Beauty School John Doucette recommends trying various shades not just on your face, but on your neck as well. “Also, lipstick, blush, eye shadow are all great to get from a drugstore, but when it comes to foundation, going to a makeup counter where a pro can help you select your perfect shade helps. If that is not possible, try to shop at a drugstore that allows you to return makeup. Also, consider using a tinted moisturizer (always with SPF), which is more sheer and therefore foolproof when it comes to skin tone matching.”
