Cutting Floor: My Cut at Arrojo Studio

truc-cut-img.jpg

I recently had the pleasure of getting my hair cut by Amanda at Arrojo Studio in downtown Manhattan, and I liked the results but didn’t realize how brilliant the cut was actually until a week later. After 4 days spent trekking the Inca Trail in Peru with minimal beauty products and just one hot shower, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that my new haircut looked as good as the day that I left the salon! For me, that’s the mark of a great cut.

Here are some of Amanda’s tips for getting your perfect summer ‘do!

1. How do you feel about clients coming in with photos of celebrity hairstyles?
It’s great when clients bring in photos, it can help communicate what type of style you’re looking for. Just remember to be flexible and the photos should just be a guide for your stylist as sometimes it is unrealistic to create a celeb’s style because you might have a different hair types or face shapes.

2. What factors do you consider when deciding if a cut would work on a particular person?
I like to consider my clients’ lifestyle and overall “look” - making sure they get something that really brings out their personality but is also easy for them to work with and maintain.

3. Is there a common mistake or two that a lot of people make when getting their hair cut?
It’s most important to have open communication with your stylist. That way, there’s no confusion over what type of cut you want and what type of cut your stylist thinks will work for you.  It’s always good to compromise a little, if your stylist is making a suggestion - it’s probably for the best!  I also think everyone should take a risk every once in a while, if you’ve always wanted bangs and your stylist thinks they’ll work, just be brave and go for it. Most clients surprise themselves when they try something new.

4. What do you think will be the biggest hair trends of the summer? Will they work for everyone?
A cool style that can suit different hair types, especially great for working with natural textures is deconstructed, loose layers and a heavy fringe.  With slight tweaks depending on your hair type it can be super versatile.  You can wear it really clean and polished or messy and undone.

5. Any other tips?
Use your hair to express your personal style, think of it like any accessory. Don’t be afraid to be an individual.

Gossip Girl-worthy Headband!

headband-img-blair.jpgHow cute and simple is this little headband from JoomiNYC? I love the subtle sparkle and how thin it is - enough to channel your inner Blair Waldorf, but not a total statement maker. I’m a big headband wearer during the summer when the humidity gives me this weird, fluffy, cobwebby halo. This little guy will definitely do the trick!

JoomiNYC Darling Dalia Small Headband with Sprinkled Jewels, $40. Henri Bendel.
