In the spirit of Earth Month, Emma Pazzack, founder of Futurenatural–an online beauty store hailed as an organic and natural Sephora–shares the top 5 reasons for using organic beauty products. After reading them, I’m totally convinced!
- Your skin absorbs up to 60% of what you apply to the surface. Using natural and organic beauty products is not a luxury - it’s critical to your health.
- Organic ingredients create a less toxic environment for us, and the planet. In cosmetic formulations, chemical preservatives, petrochemicals, synthetic colors and fragrances are eliminated in favor of healthy, natural, effective alternatives.
- Organic cosmetics contain optimal amounts of bioactive ingredients that are a very important aid to the health of skin. Anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, oils (from seeds & nuts), fruit and vegetables, are powerful and effective tools in the fight against all skin problems!
- Organic has been proven to use less energy (on average, about 30 percent less), and is beneficial to soil, water and local habitat, not to mention safer for the people who harvest the crops.
- The natural scents & essential oils used in organic and natural beauty products have aromatherapeutic value - they don’t just make you smell good, they make you feel good. Avoid using brands that list the smell of their product as ‘fragrance’ and do not disclose what that ‘fragrance’ is. Often this masks some very nasty chemicals!

How awesome is this? Pantene Beautiful Lengths has received more than 1 million inches of hair donated to make free, real-hair wigs for women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment. My hair is SUPER SHORT right now (and getting shorter in time for spring/summer), but when I go back to being long–and then short–they’re definitely getting my hair! For more information or to donate your hair, visit beautifullengths.com!

Teens for the Cure sponsored the Tickled Pink event recently and Seventeen was a cosponsor! The event, which was held at the Diane von
Furstenberg store in Manhattan and raised funds and awareness for breast cancer, included an auction, a DVF runway show
(hosted by Tim Gunn and Stacy London — check out the Seventeen team hanging with them on the left!), and many inspiring speeches
and stories.
Teens for the Cure is an organization comprised
of a dedicated group of young women attending high school in Manhattan
and its vicinity who have come together to join in the fight against
breast cancer. Many of them even walked in the runway show with their mothers, who are breast cancer survivors.

I
wanted to tell you guys about a really cool event that’s going on in
NYC on April 30th. If you’re in town then you should try to check it
out because it’s for a great cause! But if you miss out, just check
back in early May because Seventeen will be there checking out
all the celebs (Project Runway’s Christian Siriano along with models
Iman, CariDee English, and Jaslene Gonzalez are all set to attend!) at
the Design Cares presents Kaleidoscope of Dreams benefit for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The third annual event is getting a ton of support from the
fashion industry’s hottest designers, like Badgley Mischka, Carolina
Herrera, Catherine Malandrino, Diane von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs,
Michael Kors, Nicole Miller, Vera Wang and Versace, just to name a few!
Each fashion house will be featured in a runway show of evening gowns
which will then be auctioned off at the event to benefit St. Jude
Children’s Research Hospital, one of the world’s premier facilities for
pediatric cancer treatment and research.
For more on the event, click “read more.”

At 90210’s Paleyfest
(Paleyfests are in-depth Q&A sessions that include cast members
from tv shows and movies), Shanae Grimes showed up with a darker,
casual ‘do that was parted in the front and pulled up in the back.
Paired with her berry lip and glowy California skin, Shanae looked carefree and relaxed, much unlike her high strung character on the show.
I’m really loving this look on Shanae because after watching her for years on Degrassi: The Next Generation, and now on 90210 with the same hair thing going on (long & curly/wavy, see pic), it’s nice to see her change it up a bit! Thoughts?
