Another tip from one of my most favorite derms in the world–Dr. Howard Murad… Here’s #17!
#17: Reflect on the positive. Studies have shown that optimistic people live longer and more fulfilling lives. Even when you feel down, focusing on one positive thing can instantly improve your mood. Each night before you go to bed, write down three good things that happened to you that day. This is my #1 recommendation to improve your emotional well-being!

Dr. Ted Lain of Steiner Ranch Dermatology in Austin, Texas recently shared some really helpful sunscreen tips with yours truly. Just in time for spring break! Read on to be sun-smart!
“The best and the newest sunscreens to hit drug store shelves are the Helioplex line from Neutrogena, and the Mexoryl line from L’Oreal. Helioplex and Mexoryl are two sunscreen ingredients that protect against UVA rays, which historically been very difficult to block using sunscreens. The reason is that the UVA-blocking sunscreens are very unstable and are quickly inactivated when exposed to the sunlight. Helioplex and Mexoryl, however, stabilize UVA blocking sunscreens and allow them to work for a much longer period of time.
Understanding why you need a sunscreen and what a tan really does to your skin is the key to younger healthier skin. So what does a tan mean to your body, besides darker skin? A tan is your body’s response to an injury - sunlight causes damage to the DNA in the skin cells, which triggers the pigment producing cells to work harder. The pigment they produce, called melanin, literally provides a sun shade over the DNA of the cells, protecting them from future sun damage. So as the damage increases, the pigment production increases, and your tan gets darker.”
The bottom line: Look for an SPF of at least 30!

AGE: 18
HOMETOWN: Budapest, Hungry
WHAT HE’S WEARING: “A Wrangler t-shirt, Levi’s 511 slim jeans, Lacoste shoes, Levi’s suspenders, a hat from a second hand shop, some necklaces that I made and a briefcase that I customized.”
TWIN THEORY: I get fashion inspiration from Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, John Galliano (he is my favorite designer), London street chic and of course, from Teen Vogue. The Olsen twins have a very special style -there’s just no question about it. I love their oversized clothes, their shoes, and their jewelry, but most of all, the way they put together each outfit. When I get dressed, I always ask myself what would Mary-Kate do.”
PUNK PRINCE: “I would describe my style as ‘Misfit chic.’”
UK EXPRESS: “London is my favorite fashion city. Afterall, I started to care about crafting my look after I visited there and bought my first issue of Vogue when I was sixteen. I often go to London to buy new clothes and bring back the latest trends to Hungry.”
MADE IN THE SHADE: “Ray Ban pilot sunglasses will never be out of fashion.”
