Chances are, you ARE! Beverly Hills hairstylist Lea Journo recently shared her thoughts on the five factors that are most damaging to hair…

1. CHEMICAL TREATMENTS!
Chemical relaxers, such as the Japanese straightening technique, tighten the pores of the hair causing hair to become porous and fragile. Hair will become flat, brittle and devoid of movement.

2. HEAT STYLING!
Heat, hot water, blow drier, hair curlers and curling irons are very bad for the scalp. It even worsens greasy hair because heat activates the sebaceous glands that are functioning too fast already.

3. COLOR!
It is important to go to a professional for color. One should never use a comb to apply color. There are newer, milder products for highlights, such as Balayage, that are ammonia free, which are much better for your hair.

4. THE SUMMER SEASON!
Sunbathing, chlorine from swimming pools, and the salt from the ocean are hard on hair because the hair is permeable and ultimately becomes brittle.

5. WIND AND POLLUTION!
Hair is very sensitive to wind and pollution. Oily hair will attract pollutants in the air and cause it to become oiler. Dry hair is even more sensitive because the cuticle is open so hair becomes more brittle as a result of outside aggression. They also cause the scalp to flake.
