My Visit to the International Center of Photography!

fash-photog-shw.jpg

“Weird Beauty: Fashion Photography Now”, the current installation at the International Center of Photography is, in a word, unreal. For years I’ve been meaning to visit the museum, but for whatever reason, I just never made it in. So when I read about “Weird Beauty”, I knew I had to go! The exhibit–which includes original prints, tear sheets and covers from magazines all over the world–features the most creative, gorgeous and sometimes freaky fashion photography of the past few years. One image, “Pink Eye,” shot by Richard Burbridge for 10 magazine, shows a model’s eye and eyelashes coated in thick pink goo that looks a lot like Pepto-Bismol. In another spread titled “I’m a Marionette” for Pop magazine, photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott styled a set of models to look like creepy marionettes staring lifelessly into the distance. My favorite, was a shot called “Spot the Fake #1″ by Miles Aldridge for the New York Times’ T Magazine, shown here. While it’s definitely not a show for the fainthearted, it is fantastic, and I’m so glad I finally made it in!

Worst Horror Remakes

It’s fair to say that the sixties, seventies and eighties really were the golden years for the horror movie giving us the likes of Psycho, The Exorcist and A Nightmare on Elm Street.Today, when studios are not making the gore pore such as Saw and Hostel that they try to pass off as horror, then it’s remakes galore, why they can’t come up with an or…

Ghetts - Sing 4 Me

With three critically acclaimed underground mixtapes already under his belt, Ghetts is ready to be heard on a larger scale with this electro dancefloor destroyer “Sing 4 Me”.Combining a pulsating beat, stabbing synths, and a hypnotic female chant with Ghetts’ very own charming energy; the track is already a favourite in clubland and looks set to be…

Single Review: Peter Doherty - Last Of The English Roses

Okay, so first of all, we have to acknowledge the fact that Pete ‘crack head’ Doherty has changed his name to Peter - or maybe just decided to use his full name - in what could be a bid to make us take him more seriously, or perhaps fool us into thinking it’s someone else completely. Anyway, that said, as a music journalist I shou…

Single Review: The Asteroids Galaxy Tour - The Sun Ain’t Shining No More

This is the debut single from The Asteroids Galaxy Tour, who I have had a somewhat bizarre relationship with over the past couple of months; after interviewing them twice (Because I deleted the first interview from my Dictaphone) when I first started my job, I was determined to love them. From the start of the song, you can’t help but notice h…
