Netherlands-born hairstylist Fred Vandebunt started his career in a small salon and is now one of the most sought after stylists in the industry. He’s been living in New York since 1994 and has worked for magazines from Sports Illustrated to Harper’s Bazzar. He travels all around the world styling campaigns for Maybelline, Nicole Miller, and Hugo Boss-to name a few! And lately, his celebrity clientele has grown to include Taylor Momsen (little Jenny Humphrey on Gossip Girl)! Here, he shares his favorite tips and tricks.
1. Why do you think you decided to become a hair stylist?
I always was working with my hands. Hair became the big challenge and I stuck
to it. Could have been a sculptor or carpenter as well….
2. How did you get your start in the industry?
When I did my first photo shoot in Paris with Kate Moss. She had just
turned 13.

Life
4. Which iconic hairstyles do you love?
The five-point cut from Vidal Sassoon.
5. Who inspires you?
I don’t have a who. I have many situations that stop me dead in my
tracks. That inspires me.

The 15th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards announced their nominations yesterday with Doubt leading the way with five nods, including Best Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
