Well, not quite. But, to put it mildly, I am utterly inept in the kitchen. When my friend Kyle gave me a gift certificate for cooking classes, I was mildly amused… But more worried that I would somehow manage to blow up the chef’s studio. I am happy to report, dear readers, that no such thing happened. At Miette Culinary Studio, Chef Paul (former head chef at charmante NYC restaurant Tartine) taught me how to make handmade fettucini (it took, like, 3 minutes!), pesto sauce, crab cakes AND a delicious pear tart. I love a good smoky eye but every time I try to create the look, I end up
looking like a raccoon! Luckily for novices like myself, Sephora has opened
the Eye Studio, a place where the artistically challenged can come and have
their eyes done, while learning the correct technique. Thursday night I got
to meet Nikki, one of fourteen members of the nationwide Sephora Pro Team.
She told me the smoky eye is one of the most requested looks right now and
can be worn day or night. Nikki created a pared down look for me in three
easy to follow steps. First, she applied Stila Smudge Pots in black over my
entire lid. She then pressed Smashbox Eyeshadow in Rapture on top of the
black cream liner and blended it into the crease.  For a little sparkle,
Nikki pressed Bare Escentuals Bareminerals Glimmer in Queen Phyllis under my
brow bone and once again blended down into the crease. She added a couple
coats of black mascara to finish and that was it–smoky eye 101!
