The Pacific Islanders have many fine players but it is essentially a scratch side and they will always suffer for the lack of time they spend together preparing for matches. At the end there was a general feeling that it had been a satisfactory day’s work, with a ready acknowledgement from both coaching staff and players.

Arenal’s youngsters produced a great performance in last night’s Carling Cup tie with Wigan, beating the Latic’s 3-0 and booking a place in the quarter finals. Manager Arsene Wenger kept 10 of the side that demolished Sheffield United in the previous round, adding Jay Simpson, one of eight teenagers in the squad which had an average age of 19.
